Swimming is a life skill which the school believe all children should have. In Key Stage 2 all children are expected to attend the school swimming lessons. To further enhance the healthy aspect of school life children will walk from Windhill to Bishop’s Stortford College where we are fortunate to have the use of their 6 lane 25m deck level pool.
The lessons are conducted under the guidance of a qualified ASA Level 2 swimming teacher alongside the class teacher and teaching assistants. The main aim of the lessons is to ensure all children, as far as possible, are able to confidently swim 25m by the end of Key Stage 2. Rather than trying to teach the children to be beautiful swimmers with good technique, the focus is on water confidence, endurance and safety. The children be will made aware of the fun you can have in all types of water and also the dangers of each. In years 5 & 6 those who are most confident will focus on how to help themselves and others in difficult situations.
Any opportunity you have to take your child swimming will greatly enhance their confidence and enjoyment for the sport.
There are several local swim schools in the area should you require your child to have lessons focused on technique. For those with a competitive streak Bishop’s Stortford has a very successful swimming club which produces swimmers who compete at County, Regional and National level, some of which we are proud to say are previous pupils of the school.
